Abstract

This study aims to improve the understanding of 4th grade elementary school students in the subject of social studies (IPAS) on norms and customs. through the application of the STAD learning model assisted by Pop Up Book media. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 8 4th grade students. The instruments used included evaluation tests, teacher activity observation sheets, and documentation. The results showed that the application of the STAD model assisted by Pop Up Book media was able to improve students' understanding gradually. In the pre-cycle stage, the percentage of student learning completeness was still low. After the action was carried out in cycle I (62.5%), there was an increase although it had not reached the target. In cycle II (87.5%), the increase in students' understanding was more significant, marked by an increase in the average value and student learning completeness that exceeded the KKM. Thus, it can be concluded that the STAD model assisted by Pop Up Book media is effectively applied in IPAS learning to improve students' understanding. This strategy can make students more active, enthusiastic, and easily understand the material through group learning and interesting visualizations from Pop Up Books.
