Abstract

This study aims to determine the conditions and needs of Indonesian language learning media and to understand the process of developing digital comic media as an aid in Indonesian language learning, specifically to foster reading literacy of fifth grade students at SDN Bagi 03. This study used observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation data collection techniques. The population in this study was 12 students. The sample used a non-probability technique. This technique uses the entire population as a sample of 12 students. The results of the study indicate that teachers have used learning media such as LKS, PPT, and picture story books, but these media have not been fully able to attract students' enthusiasm for reading. The need for media to make reading activities more enjoyable requires interesting and interactive media, namely digital comics. The development process for this media followed the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. Product validation was conducted by media experts, material and language experts. The validation results showed that the developed digital comic media received a score of 98% from the media experts, indicating that it was highly suitable for use. Furthermore, the material and language experts received a score of 93%, also indicating that it met the criteria of being highly suitable. After the validation process, the media was piloted with fifth-grade students at SDN Bagi 03. Teacher responses were 86%, while student responses reached 90.1%. Both results indicate that the digital comic media was well-received and considered highly engaging for use in learning. The development of this digital comic media is expected to be an effective alternative for fostering students' reading literacy.
