Abstract
Lilik Sugiarti. 2026. Improving Eye-Hand Coordination Skills through Simple Banana Leaf Weaving (Fine Motor Activity) for Children Aged 4–5 Years at TK Raden Syahid IV Gandri. Undergraduate Thesis. Early Childhood Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Noviyanti Katika Dewa, M.Pd. Kons; (II) Dr. Alisa Alfina, M.Pd. Fine motor skills involve the coordination of small muscles—particularly eye-hand coordination—which are crucial for supporting various activities in early childhood. Preliminary observations at TK Raden Syahid IV Gandri indicated that the fine motor skills of children aged 4–5 years were not yet optimally developed. The children struggled to coordinate eye and hand movements, control finger movements, and complete tasks requiring precision. One strategy to enhance these fine motor skills is through simple banana leaf weaving activities. This study aims to improve children's fine motor skills through banana leaf weaving, using eye-hand coordination and the ability to perform simple weaving as assessment indicators. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted over two cycles; each cycle comprised the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were eight children aged 4–5 years at TK Raden Syahid IV Gandri during the 2025/2026 academic year. Data collection was carried out through observation and documentation. Data analysis utilized quantitative descriptive methods, comparing results from the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II based on the percentage of achievement regarding fine motor development indicators. The research results demonstrate that banana leaf weaving activities can improve children's fine motor skills. This is evidenced by the increase in the children's average fine motor skills: from 34.3% in the pre-cycle stage (categorized as "Not Yet Developed") to 50% in Cycle I (categorized as "Beginning to Develop"), and further to 75% in Cycle II (categorized as "Developing as Expected"). This improvement was observed in the children's ability to coordinate eye and hand movements and to independently complete banana leaf weaving activities. Thus, it can be concluded that banana leaf weaving is an effective learning strategy for enhancing the fine motor skills of children aged 4–5 years. Keywords: fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, banana leaf weaving.
