Abstract
ABSTRACT Kurniasari, Linda Agustina. 2026. Improving Fine Motor Skills in Six-Year-Old Children through Geometric Pattern Cutting Activities at Cendekia Kids School Madiun in 2026. Undergraduate Thesis. Early Childhood Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dian Ratnaningtyas Afifah, S.Psi., M.Psi., (II) Dr. Rosyida Nurul Anwar, S.Pd., M.Pd.I. Fine motor skills are one of the developmental aspects that need to be nurtured in early childhood because they play an important role in supporting learning activities, such as writing, drawing, folding, and cutting. Based on preliminary observations at Cendekia Kids School Madiun, the children's cutting skills had not yet developed optimally. Some children still experienced difficulties in holding scissors correctly, cutting along patterns, coordinating hand movements while turning the paper, and producing neat cutouts. Therefore, this study aimed to improve children's fine motor skills through cutting activities. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted in two cycles involving 18 children. Data were collected through observation and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods by calculating the percentage of cutting skill achievement based on five indicators: holding scissors correctly, cutting along straight lines, cutting along curved lines, coordinating the right and left hands while turning the paper, and producing neat cutouts. The results showed that cutting activities improved children's fine motor skills in each cycle. In the pre-cycle stage, the average cutting skill achievement reached 77.22%, categorized as Developing as Expected (BSH). After the intervention in Cycle I, the average increased to 86.39%, categorized as Developing Very Well (BSB). In Cycle II, the average increased further to 88.61%, also categorized as Developing Very Well (BSB). The percentage of children who achieved the BSB category increased from 44.44% in the pre-cycle stage to 72.22% in Cycle I and 88.89% in Cycle II. Thus, the research success criterion, which required at least 80% of children to achieve the Developing Very Well (BSB) category, was met. Cutting activities were effective in improving the fine motor skills of young children at Cendekia Kids School Madiun. These activities provide opportunities for children to develop hand-eye coordination, small muscle strength, accuracy, concentration, and independence in completing tasks. Therefore, cutting activities can be used as an effective alternative learning activity to develop fine motor skills in early childhood. Keywords: fine motor skills, cutting activities, early childhood, classroom action research.
