Abstract
ABSTRACT Riza Nindy Pratiwi. 2026. Improving Poetry Writing Skills and Learning Motivation through Educational Video Media for Fifth-Grade Students of SD Negeri Bakalanrayung, Kudu, Jombang. Thesis. Madiun: Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hanif, M.M., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Ermi Adriani Meikayanti, M.Pd. Keywords : Education Video Media, Poetry Writing Skills, Learning Motivation, Classroom Action Research. This study was motivated by the low level of poetry writing skills and learning motivation among fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Bakalanrayung, Kudu District, Jombang Regency. The study aimed to improve students' poetry writing skills and learning motivation through the use of educational video media. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 29 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through tests, observations, questionnaires, documentation, and field notes, and were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The findings showed that the use of educational video media improved both students' poetry writing skills and learning motivation. The average score of poetry writing skills increased from 68.28 in the pre-cycle to 76.55 in Cycle I and 84.38 in Cycle II, while the learning mastery percentage improved from 17.24% to 68.97%, and finally reached 96.55%. Students' learning motivation also increased from 56.64% in the pre-cycle to 67.24% in Cycle I and 81.03% in Cycle II. These improvements were reflected in the aspects of theme relevance, diction, imagination and creativity, figurative language, message, as well as increased student participation, attention, and self confidence during the learning process. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the use of educational video media effectively improved the poetry writing skills and learning motivation of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Bakalanrayung, Kudu, Jombang. Therefore, educational video media can serve as an effective alternative instructional medium for teaching Indonesian, particularly in poetry writing at the elementary school level.
