Abstract
Indonesia is one of the countries that adheres to a democratic system of government, which means prioritizing the interests of the people. Democracy in education is very important for the current era of globalization. Learners are not only knowledgeable but must be able to become democratic citizens. One of the right places to implement the value of democracy is school. In terms of democracy, one of the most visible in the school environment is the student council chairman election activities. This research is a qualitative study using descriptive method that aims to describe and analyze the implementation of democratic values through the democratic vote project in the election of student council chairman at SMK St. Bonaventura 1 Madiun. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. Based on the results of the research conducted, the implementation of democratic values is applied through the student council chairman election activities which consist of several stages, namely the preparation stage, the nomination stage, the campaign stage, the voting stage, and the determination and inauguration stages. The level of student participation is good and in accordance with democratic values and participation due to the role of teachers and awareness of each student. Supporting factors in the implementation of the student council chairman election were the support and involvement of students and teachers who participated in launching the student council chairman election activities. While the inhibiting factor is at the screening stage, because most are not willing to register themselves as candidates for student council chairman. The way to develop substantial and procedural democracy at SMK St. Bonaventura 1 Madiun is by continuing to hold student council chairman election activities every year and always instilling democratic values and participation values in students.
