Transcript of the Indonesia Language and Literature Education Study Program, FKIP, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisor (1) Dra Wahyuningsih, M.Pd. (2) Dedy Richi Rizal, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to analyze the use of cohesion and coherence in essays in grade X5 students at SMA Negeri 2 Mejayan. This research is to find out how to use cohesion and coherence in exposition texts, this research is expected to contribute to the development of quality in exposition texts. Thus, the purpose of writing the use of cohesion and coherence in the exposition text of class X5 of SMA Negeri 2 Mejayan can build better student writing. The method used to analyze cohesion and coherence is a descriptive analysis seen from each paragraph. The cohesion aspects analyzed were lexical and grammatical cohesion aspects. The data used in this research is mertodersimak serrtaterkniknoteat. The results of this study show that the expositional text has aspects of lexical, grammatical and coherence cohesion. Aspects of cohesion and coherence build that a discourse can convey a message to the readers. In this way, the purpose of using cohesion and coherence is to build character in better students.
