Abstract

Blind Spots or blind spots when driving are areas around the driver that cannot be seen while driving due to limited visibility in the rearview mirror. The consequences of this limitation can cause accidents. Therefore, the design of this blind spot detection system aims to prevent accidents on the road when the driver is driving his vehicle. This research uses two methods: first, an ultrasonic sensor to measure the distance to the front of the MPV car, and second, the NodeMCU ESP8266 to process data from the ultrasonic sensor and send it to the Blynk application. The measurement results data is directly displayed in the Blynk application. The distances analyzed ranged from 20 cm to 330 cm. The test results showed that the highest error on the sensor was 3.84% from 32 trials. The conclusion of the test shows that the ultrasonic sensor can read distance with an average error of 1.65% for the left front sensor and 1.64% for the right front sensor. In overall system testing, the highest error rate for the left and right front sensors was 3.84%. Apart from that, the accuracy of the left front sensor was recorded at 98.66% and the right front sensor was 98.84%. Testing the angles on both sensors shows that at an angle of 0-50 degrees, the buzzer still sounds, but if the angle is more than 50 degrees, the buzzer does not sound. The NodeMCU ESP8266 successfully sends data to the Blynk application, which provides a warning "STOP" if the distance is less than 30 cm, "CAUTION" if the distance is between 30 cm and 50 cm, and "OBSTACLES FREE" if the distance is more than 50 cm.
