Abstract

Watering plants is an important aspect of plant maintenance, but is often hampered by limited time and consistency. This research aims to design and build an Android-based automatic plant watering system using an Android-based ESP8266 microcontroller to increase the effectiveness of water use. The development method used is Rapid Application Development (RAD) and with the help of UML. The system was developed with hardware in the form of NodeMCU ESP8266, LCD, RTC, Relay, and water pump, as well as an Android application using the Blynk platform. Testing is carried out using the black box testing method. The results of the research show that the system successfully carries out watering according to a predetermined schedule, with the ability to set the watering schedule and duration via the Android application. The automatic watering system also provides manual control features and notifications when watering is in progress. Effectiveness testing also shows more efficient water use compared to manual watering, with a reduction in the amount of water used by 375 ml/second. The automatic watering system still cannot be said to be perfect because there are several limitations such as a decrease in water pressure at the hose branch and inaccurate time readings.
