Abstract

This research is motivated by the rampant cases of intolerance that occur in the community, but based on pre-research observations, religious tolerance at SMK Gamaliel 1, Madiun City is running well so that it attracts researchers to conduct research at the school with the title The Role of PPKn Teachers in Increasing Religious Tolerance Through Pancasila Education. This study contains a description of the state of religious tolerance that occurs in schools, the role of teachers in increasing religious tolerance through Pancasila education, and what obstacles are faced by teachers in increasing religious tolerance for students. Based on the results of the study at the school, it shows that the state of religious tolerance has been going well, at school all students get the same facilities and treatment from teachers, students get religious subjects according to their respective religions, the school also provides a room for prayer for school residents who want to pray, for Muslim school residents the school also does not prohibit wearing the hijab in the school environment. PPKn teachers have carried out their roles well, namely by delivering material and providing examples of attitudes related to tolerance through Pancasila education subjects. In addition, outside of learning, teachers also exemplify good tolerance attitudes to students by not drinking in front of school residents who are fasting and other examples of tolerance attitudes. In facing challenges during the learning process, namely by not seeing directly cases of intolerance that occur, teachers use advances in internet technology to access examples of tolerance and intolerance, then teachers provide direction to students which are good and which are bad. Teachers also experience obstacles in the process of increasing religious tolerance such as a less than good community environment that has the potential for students to fall into negative relationships.
