ABSTRACT Edi Suwarno. 2026. Improving Indonesian Language Literacy Skills Through Deep Learning Approach For Fourth-Grade Students of SD Negeri Sempol 2, Kabupaten Magetan. Thesis. Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS., M.Pd Keywords: Literacy Skill Improvement, Deep Learning Approach, Classroom Action Research, Elementary School, Indonesian Language. This research is motivated by the low Indonesian language literacy skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Sempol 2, Kabupaten Magetan, as shown by difficulties in comprehending texts, limited vocabulary, and lack of interest in reading and writing. The objective is to improve literacy skills through the implementation of a deep learning approach. This Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were fourth-grade students. Data were collected through literacy skills tests (reading comprehension and narrative writing), observation sheets on learning activities, and field notes, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings indicate that students' literacy skills improved meaningfully after the deep learning approach was applied, reflected in better text comprehension, expanded vocabulary, structured writing ability, and greater student autonomy in exploring texts. Students' critical and collaborative thinking activities also increased along with the learning process that emphasized deep understanding and concept connections. The achievement of performance indicators by the end of the cycles exceeded the established minimum mastery criteria. In conclusion, the deep learning approach is effective and recommended as an alternative strategy for improving Indonesian language literacy skills at the elementary school level.
