Abstract

Wahyudi. 2026. The Use of Picture and Picture Learning Model to Improve Learning Motivation and Persuasive Writing Skills of Fifth-Grade Students at SD Negeri Mangunan 1, Kabuh District, Jombang Regency, Academic Year 2025–2026. Thesis. Madiun: Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hanif, MM.,M.Pd. (II) Dr. Lulus Irawati, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: Picture and Picture, learning motivation, persuasive writing. This study aims to improve students’ learning motivation and persuasive writing skills through the application of the Picture and Picture learning model. The background of the research lies in the low motivation and writing skills of students, as indicated by the initial observation results showing that only 43.6% of students achieved the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) of 70, while the school’s classical mastery target was 80%. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles. The subjects were 19 fifth-grade students. Data collection techniques included persuasive writing tests, teacher and student activity observations, learning motivation questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out both quantitatively and qualitatively to examine improvements in motivation and learning outcomes. The findings revealed that the Picture and Picture model successfully enhanced students’ learning motivation, as reflected in increased enthusiasm, attention, confidence in expressing opinions, and active participation in group discussions. Persuasive writing mastery also improved significantly, from 43.6% in the pre-cycle to 78.95% in Cycle I, and reached 88.16% in Cycle II, thereby achieving the classical mastery indicator. Teacher activity in implementing the Picture and Picture syntax improved from the “Less Active” category to “Highly Active,” while student activity and motivation also rose from “Less Active” to “Highly Active.” In conclusion, the Picture and Picture learning model is effective in improving both learning motivation and persuasive writing skills among elementary school students. This research is expected to contribute theoretically to the development of literature in Indonesian language learning and provide practical benefits for teachers, students, and schools in implementing innovative, visually based learning strategies.
