Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of third-grade students at SD Negeri Banjarejo, Kabupaten Magetan, in writing simple poetry, shown by difficulties in expressing ideas, choosing appropriate diction, arranging words into beautiful lines, and lacking concrete experiences as sources of inspiration. The objective is to improve simple poetry writing ability through outdoor learning activities integrated with deep learning principles. This Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were third-grade students. Data were collected through poetry writing tests, observation sheets on the creative process, and field notes, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings indicate that students' poetry writing ability improved meaningfully, reflected in richer imagination, more precise word choices, thematic coherence, and greater confidence in expressing feelings in writing. Outdoor learning activities combining nature exploration, sensory observation, and deep reflection proved capable of arousing students' aesthetic sensitivity and creativity. Collaborative activities and reflective discussions during the process further strengthened students' understanding of poetic elements. The achievement of performance indicators by the end of the cycles exceeded the established minimum mastery criteria. In conclusion, outdoor learning activities with deep learning principles are effective and can serve as an innovative approach for improving simple poetry writing ability in elementary schools.
