Abstract
This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of the learning by doing model assisted by video media can improve poetry writing skills in class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kwadungan, Kwadungan District, Ngawi Regency, and (2) the learning outcomes of class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kwadungan, Kwadungan District, Ngawi Regency in learning to write poetry using the learning by doing model assisted by video media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the application of the learning by doing model assisted by video media can improve poetry writing skills in class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kwadungan, Kwadungan District, Ngawi Regency, there is an increase. This is evidenced by the results of observations of students in cycle I, namely 97% of students were present during the learning process; 86% of students paid attention to the teacher's explanation; 38% of students actively asked questions and expressed their opinions; 54% of students were able to work together with their group members; 54% of students were responsible for doing assignments; 70% of students were able to compose poems; 70% of students completed assignments on time; Students are able to draw conclusions on what has been learned by 54%; and students who do other activities during the learning process (making noise, playing, disturbing friends, going in and out of class) by 10.6%. The results of the observation of students in cycle II were that 100% of students were present during the learning process; 98% of students paid attention to the teacher's explanation; 75% of students actively asked questions and gave opinions; 90% of students were able to work together with their group members; 90% of students were responsible for completing assignments; 90% of students were able to compose poems; 98% of students completed assignments on time; 90% of students were able to draw conclusions about what had been learned; 88% of students read their poems in front of the class; and 2.3% of students did other activities during the learning process (being noisy, playing, disturbing friends, going in and out of class), and (2) the learning outcomes of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kwadungan, Kwadungan District, Ngawi Regency, in learning to write poetry using the Learning by Doing model assisted by video media have increased. This is evidenced by the average score of student learning outcomes in cycle I of 66. In cycle II, the average score of student learning outcomes increased to 95.
