Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the role-playing method using hand puppets on the learning achievement and speaking skills of Grade I students at SDN Jamberejo. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with two cycles, involving 13 students as research subjects. Data were collected through learning achievement tests, speaking skills tests, observation of student participation and motivation, as well as documentation of classroom activities. The results indicated that the implementation of the role-playing method using hand puppets significantly improved students' learning achievement and speaking skills. Students became more active, confident, and creative in expressing ideas through hand puppets. In addition, student participation and learning motivation also increased, supporting the achievement of optimal learning outcomes. Descriptive analysis showed that the two CAR cycles allowed the teacher to conduct reflection and adjust learning strategies, making this method effectively applicable in Indonesian language learning for lower-grade students.
