Abstract
Darwati. 2026. Efforts to Reduce Children's Tantrums Through Ball Throwing and Catching Games at Karya Mukti Kindergarten. Thesis. Early Childhood Education Study Program, FKIP, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisors: (1) Dian R. Afifah, M.Psi., Psychologist, (II) Dr. Rosyida Nurul A., M.Pd.I Tantrums are emotional outbursts that often occur in early childhood, such as excessive crying, screaming, and difficulty controlling emotions. These can hinder a child's social and emotional development. One way to reduce tantrums is through directed and enjoyable play activities. This study aimed to reduce children's tantrums through a game of catch, with indicators assessing children's turn-taking and emotional control. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, implemented in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were early childhood children at the Karya Mukti Kindergarten. Data collection was conducted through observation and interviews with teachers. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods by comparing the results of the pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II. The results of the study showed that playing catch can reduce tantrums in children. This was demonstrated by the children's increased ability to wait their turn and control their emotions from pre-cycle to cycle I, with even more significant improvements in cycle II. Therefore, it can be concluded that playing catch is an effective learning strategy to reduce tantrums in early childhood. Keywords: child tantrums, social emotional.
