Abstract
This study aims to analyze the types of reading difficulties experienced by first-grade students at SDN Guyung 2, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency, and to describe the reading instruction practices implemented in the classroom. The background of this research is the presence of early-grade elementary school students who experience difficulties in beginning reading, such as letter recognition, sound–symbol correspondence, syllable blending, and reading simple words and sentences. An in-depth analysis of these reading difficulties is necessary as a basis for designing more appropriate reading instruction that suits students’ characteristics.
