Keywords SQ3R, comic strip, reading ability, elementary school students This study aims to improve the reading ability of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Wates, Slahung District, through the implementation of the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) combined with comic strip media. The background of this study stems from the low interest and reading comprehension skills of students, as evidenced by the many students who still have difficulty understanding the content of texts, finding important information, and answering questions based on their readings. To address these problems, the SQ3R method, which is known to train targeted and systematic reading strategies, is used, supported by comic strip media that is engaging and suitable for the characteristics of elementary school students. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle includes the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Wates, Slahung District. The data collection techniques included observing learning activities, reading skill tests, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted quantitatively and descriptively to observe improvements in students' activities and reading abilities in each cycle. The results of the study showed significant improvements in both learning activities and students' reading abilities. In Cycle I, the average reading ability score of students reached 60.3% with a 'fair' category, while learning activities reached 67% in the first meeting and increased to 79% in the second meeting. In Cycle II, the average reading ability score increased to 81.4% with a 'good–very good' category, and learning activities reached 82% in the first meeting and further increased to 88% in the second meeting. In addition, student learning completeness reached 100% by the end of Cycle II.
