Abstract

The Application of Direct Reading Activity Assisted by Reading Corner to Improve Reading Interest of Fifth Grade Students at Sukosari 01 Public Elementary School in Madiun Regency. Thesis. Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School of PGRI University Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Jeffry Handhika, M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dwi Rosita Sari, PhD Keywords: Direct Reading Activity, Reading Corner, Reading Interest This study aims to: (1) Describe the application of the Direct Reading Activity (DRA) model assisted by a reading corner in the reading activities of fifth-grade students at Sukosari 01 Public Elementary School in Madiun Regency; (2) Increase the reading interest of fifth-grade students at Sukosari 01 Public Elementary School in Madiun Regency through the application of the Direct Reading Activity (DRA) model assisted by a reading corner. This research is classroom action research. The stages of this research were arranged starting from the pre-cycle stage, cycle I, to cycle II. The research subjects were all fifth-grade students at Sukosari 01 Public Elementary School in Madiun Regency. The results of the study show that: (1) The implementation of DRA assisted by a reading corner succeeded in improving the quality of the students' reading process, which was initially passive, to become more active, focused, and participatory; (2) This study also proves that the application of the Direct Reading Activity (DRA) model assisted by a reading corner is effective in significantly increasing the reading interest of fifth-grade students.
