Abstract

Kusumawati, Iva Maulina. 2025. The Effect of Digital Literacy through Google Earth Media on Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes of Sixth-Grade Students at SD Negeri 5 Warujayeng, Tanjunganom, Nganjuk. Thesis. Madiun: Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Prof. Dr. Drs. Muhammad Hanif, M.M., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Erlik Widiyani Styati, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: digital literacy, Google Earth learning media, Indonesian language learning outcomes, descriptive text, elementary school students This study aims to examine the effect of digital literacy through the use of Google Earth on Indonesian language learning outcomes of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 5 Warujayeng. In addition, this research seeks to compare students’ learning outcomes before and after the implementation of digital literacy-based learning. Another objective of the study is to explain the role of Google Earth in improving students’ ability to understand visual information and write descriptive texts at the elementary school level. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. This approach was selected to identify changes in students’ learning outcomes before and after the implementation of Indonesian language learning based on digital literacy through Google Earth. The research data consisted of numerical data analyzed statistically. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling, in which all members of the population were included as research subjects. Data collection techniques comprised learning outcome tests (pretest and posttest), observations of learning activities, and documentation. The test instruments were used to measure Indonesian language learning outcomes, while observations were conducted to assess student engagement in digital literacy-based learning. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistical tests to determine the significance of differences in learning outcomes. The results indicate an improvement in Indonesian language learning outcomes after the implementation of digital literacy-based learning through Google Earth. Students’ posttest scores were higher than their pretest scores, and the differences were statistically significant. Furthermore, the use of Google Earth increased students’ learning activeness, motivation, and ability to write descriptive texts in a more concrete and coherent manner.
