Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the application of the PQ4R method assisted by picture media can improve reading comprehension skills in grade VI students of SDN Kedungdowo, Sugihwaras District, Bojonegoro Regency and (2) the activities of grade VI students of SDN Kedungdowo, Sugihwaras District, Bojonegoro Regency in learning reading comprehension using the PQ4R method assisted by picture media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the application of the PQ4R method assisted by picture media can improve reading comprehension skills in grade VI students of SDN Kedungdowo, Sugihwaras District, Bojonegoro Regency. This is evidenced by data from observations of teacher skills showing that in cycle I the teacher got good criteria and in cycle II got very good criteria. In cycle I the lowest score was 20, the highest score was 100, the class average was 66.58, and the percentage of classical completion was 61.5%. In cycle II the lowest score was 40, the highest score was 100, the average class score was 72.16 and the classical completion percentage was 80%, and (2) student activity showed that in cycle I student activity achieved good criteria and in cycle II it increased although it was still within the good criteria.
