Abstract

Puspitasari. Theresia Ajeng. 2025. The Effectiveness of the Environment as a Learning Medium for Writing Narrative Texts for Fifth Grade Students SDN Widodaren 2, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Pembimbing (I) Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, S.S., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Suhartini, M.Pd. Keywords: environment, learning media, writing, narrative text, elementary school. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the environment as a learning medium in improving narrative writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN Widodaren 2, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency. The background of this study is based on the low narrative writing ability of students, as indicated by limited ideas, poorly organized storylines, and inappropriate use of vocabulary and sentence structures. Therefore, a contextual learning medium closely related to students’ real-life experiences is needed. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects were fifth-grade students of SDN Widodaren 2, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency. Data were collected through narrative writing tests, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted by comparing students’ writing performance before and after the implementation of the environment as a learning medium. The results indicate that the environment as a learning medium is effective in improving students’ narrative writing skills. The improvement is evident in students’ ability to develop story ideas, organize narratives coherently, and use more varied vocabulary and appropriate language structures. Therefore, utilizing the environment as a learning medium can be considered an effective alternative to enhance narrative writing skills of elementary school students.
