Abstract
The background to this research is that speech activities involve public speaking practice, which is highly beneficial for improving students' communication skills. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of speech extracurricular activities, describe how speech extracurricular activities foster students' linguistic intelligence, describe the linguistic intelligence that can be developed through speech extracurricular activities, and describe its relevance in building student character education at MI An-Najihah Babussalam. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study approach. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis utilizes data condensation, followed by data presentation and drawing conclusions. Data validity was tested using two approaches: persistence and triangulation. The research results show three stages of extracurricular speech activities: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Speech implementations that can foster linguistic intelligence include: Student Writing Their Own Speeches, Proofreading Speeches, Rehearsing for a Supervisor, Presenting a Speech in Front of Other Students, Developing a Summary of the Event, and Giving a Speech Using the Reading Method (Specifically for Grade 3). The linguistic intelligence successfully developed in students through extracurricular speech activities at MI An-Najihah Babussalam includes: the ability to read and comprehend intensively, increased vocabulary, the ability to organize thoughts critically and convey ideas, writing skills, the ability to communicate effectively and effectively, public speaking skills, and the ability to listen and comprehend information quickly and coherently. The relevance of extracurricular speech activities in building students' character education results in several character education habits, namely Courage, Effective Communication Skills, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Discipline, Teamwork, Self-Confidence, Ability to Manage Emotions, Leadership.
