Abstract

The Use of Audio-Visual Assisted Discovery Learning Methods to Improve Narrative Writing Skills for Sixth-Grade Students of SDN Senganten 2, Gondang District, Bojonegoro Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. PGRI Postgraduate School, University of Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hanif, MM., M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Kodrat Eko Putro Setiawan, M.Pd Keywords: discovery learning, audio-visual media, narrative writing, elementary school. This study aims to improve students’ narrative writing skills through the implementation of the Discovery Learning method assisted by audio-visual media in Grade VI students at SD Negeri Senganten 2, Gondang District, Bojonegoro Regency. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 29 students, with the classroom teacher Ulqiyatus Zahra, S.Pd. Data were collected through observation, writing tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using both qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine changes in the learning process and outcomes. The assessment aspects of narrative writing skills included text structure, plot coherence, vocabulary and grammar usage, and students’ creativity. The results indicated that the implementation of the Discovery Learning method assisted by audio-visual media significantly improved students’ narrative writing skills. Improvements were observed in students’ learning engagement, understanding of narrative text structure, coherence of story plots, and language quality. The class average scores and the percentage of students achieving learning mastery increased from the pre-action stage to Cycle I and showed optimal improvement in Cycle II. In addition, the use of audio-visual media enhanced students’ motivation and interest in writing activities. It can be concluded that the Discovery Learning method assisted by audio-visual media is effective for teaching narrative writing in elementary schools and can be considered an alternative instructional strategy to improve the quality of learning processes and outcomes in Indonesian language education.
