Abstract

This study aims to improve the narrative text writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 5 Warujayeng, Tanjunganom, Nganjuk through the implementation of the cooperative learning model of the STAD type assisted by serial picture media. This research employed classroom action research conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the fifth-grade classroom teacher. The study was carried out in two cycles consisting of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 25 fifth-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation of teacher and student activities, narrative writing skill tests, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the implementation of the STAD-type cooperative learning model assisted by serial picture media effectively improved students’ narrative text writing skills. The average score of students’ narrative writing skills in the initial condition was 56.8, with a classical learning mastery percentage of 16%. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, the average score increased to 68.6, with a classical learning mastery of 56%. In Cycle II, the average score further increased to 77.6, with the classical learning mastery reaching 80%, thus meeting the criteria for research success. This improvement was also accompanied by increased student activity and motivation in the learning process. Serial picture media helped students develop ideas and organize storylines coherently, while the STAD cooperative learning model encouraged collaboration and responsibility for learning among students. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of the STAD-type cooperative learning model assisted by serial picture media is effective in improving the narrative text writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 5 Warujayeng, Tanjunganom, Nganjuk.
