Abstract
ABSTRACT Triyanto, Ruddy. 2025. Improving the Ability to Read Expository Texts Using Educational Video Media for Grade VI Students of SDN Bandungrejo I Ngasem Bojonegoro. Thesis. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Pembimbing (I) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hanif, MM, M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: expository text reading, educational video media. This study aimed to describe the implementation of educational video media in teaching expository text reading and to improve the expository reading skills of sixth-grade students at SDN Bandungrejo I, Ngasem District, Bojonegoro Regency. The research was motivated by students’ low ability in reading expository texts, particularly in identifying main ideas, important information, and text structure. This study employed a qualitative and quantitative approach using Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 24 sixth-grade students. Data collection techniques included expository reading tests, observations of teacher and student activities, and documentation. Research instruments consisted of reading tests, observation sheets, and field notes. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques by comparing the results of the pre-action, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The findings revealed that the use of educational video media increased students’ engagement and motivation in reading lessons. Students’ expository reading skills showed significant improvement, as indicated by the increase in mean scores and learning mastery percentages from the pre-action stage to Cycle I and further improvement in Cycle II.
