Abstract
ABSTRACT Sunu Dwi Wahono. 2025. Application of Interactive Picture Stories as a Media to Develop Contextual Vocabulary Understanding of Second Grade Students of SD Negeri 4 Banjar, Panggul District, Trenggalek Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. Graduate School of PGRI Madiun University (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd Keywords: interactive picture stories, contextual vocabulary, Indonesian language learning, elementary school. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, as well as challenges and solutions in applying interactive picture stories as a learning medium to develop contextual vocabulary understanding of second-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Banjar, Panggul District, Trenggalek Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The subjects consisted of a second-grade teacher and second-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that the learning planning was systematically designed through the preparation of teaching modules, the selection of picture stories relevant to students’ daily lives, and the design of interactive activities that encouraged active student engagement. The implementation of interactive picture stories effectively enhanced students’ contextual vocabulary understanding, as reflected in their ability to recognize word meanings, use vocabulary in sentence contexts, and relate vocabulary to everyday experiences. The challenges encountered included differences in students’ initial abilities and limited instructional time; however, these were addressed through individual guidance and flexible time management. This study provides important implications for Indonesian language learning in lower elementary grades, particularly in contextual vocabulary development.
