Abstract

Improving the Ability to Write Descriptive Texts Using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Method Through Serial Picture Media for Fourth Grade Students of Tengger State Elementary School, Ngasem District, Bojonegoro Regency. Thesis. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Pembimbing (I) Prof. Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Muhammad Binur Huda, M.Pd. Keywords: Project Based Learning, descriptive writing, serial pictures. . This study aimed to describe the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) in teaching descriptive writing skills using serial picture media and to determine the improvement of descriptive writing skills of fourth-grade students at Tengger State Elementary School, Ngasem District, Bojonegoro Regency. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, involving six fourth-grade students as research subjects. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, writing tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis by comparing students’ writing performance in the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The results showed that the implementation of Project Based Learning using serial picture media was effective in increasing students’ engagement and participation in learning descriptive writing. The improvement in students’ writing skills was indicated by the increase in the class average score from 62.5 in the pre-cycle, to 72.3 in Cycle I, and significantly increased to 84.7 in Cycle II. Improvements were found in all writing aspects, including content, organization, vocabulary, sentence structure, and the use of spelling and punctuation.
