Abstract
ABSTRACT Martinah. 2025. Improving Reading Interest of Implementation through the Literacy Learning Exploration Using Folktales Sixth-Grade Students at SD Negeri 1 Ngangkatan, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency, Academic Year 2025/2026 Thesis. Madiun: Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Dwi Setiyadi, M.M., (II) Dr. Heny Kusuma Widyaningrum, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: reading interest, literacy learning exploration, folktales, classroom action research. This study aims to describe and analyze the efforts to improve the reading interest of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Ngangkatan, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency, in the Academic Year 2025/2026 through the implementation of literacy learning exploration based on folktales. The background of this research is the low level of students’ reading interest, which is indicated by limited student participation in literacy activities, minimal comprehension of reading texts, and low motivation to engage in reading activities. The research method employed was Classroom Action Research, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observations, interviews, field notes, as well as assessments of students’ reading activities and reading interest. The results of the study show that the implementation of literacy learning exploration through folktales can enhance students’ reading interest. This improvement is evidenced by increased student involvement in reading activities, greater enthusiasm in discussing story content, improved ability to express opinions, and higher scores in reading interest assessments in each cycle. Folktales, as a literacy medium, are proven to effectively attract students’ attention because they are closely related to local culture and contain moral values that are relevant to students’ daily lives. Therefore, the implementation of literacy learning exploration through folktales is effective as a strategy to improve the reading interest of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Ngangkatan, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency.
