Abstract

Language learning in elementary schools is not only oriented toward developing language skills but also plays an important role in shaping students’ character. One language skill with strong potential for character education is story writing. This study aimed to describe the implementation of story-writing learning using picture media and the process of character formation among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Pacewetan. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that story-writing learning using picture media improved students’ writing skills while fostering character values such as discipline, responsibility, cooperation, honesty, and self-confidence. Picture media functioned as a stimulus that helped students develop story ideas coherently and meaningfully. Therefore, story-writing learning using picture media can serve as an effective alternative for strengthening character education in elementary schools.
