Abstract

This study aims to improve the critical thinking and collaboration skills of third-grade students at SD Negeri Meduri III through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in IPAS learning. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection, with the research subjects being third-grade students of SD Negeri Meduri III. Data collection techniques included critical thinking ability tests and observation sheets assessing students’ collaboration skills, while data analysis was carried out using both quantitative and qualitative methods.The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in students’ critical thinking skills, as shown by an increase in the average score from 67.23 with a mastery level of 53.85% in the initial condition (pre-test), to 73.53 with a mastery level of 69.23% in Cycle I, and reaching an optimal improvement in Cycle II with an average score of 82.00 and a mastery percentage of 92.30%. In addition, students’ collaboration skills also showed a significant improvement, increasing from 56% in the initial condition to 71% in Cycle I, and reaching 85% in Cycle II. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills, creating more active, meaningful, and collaborative IPAS learning, and supporting the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) among elementary school students.
