Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of the explicit instruction model can improve the narrative writing skills of grade VI students of SDN 2 Singgahan, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of grade VI students of SDN 2 Singgahan, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency in participating in narrative writing learning with the explicit instruction model. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The conclusion of this study is (1) the application of the explicit instruction model can improve the narrative writing skills of grade VI students of SDN 2 Singgahan, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency. This can be seen from the results of the non-test which include the results of observations, journals, and interviews. Students who in cycle I tend to be passive, lazy, and underestimate the explanation. In cycle II students change to be happy, active, and serious in the learning process. In addition, they also looked enthusiastic and enjoyed the activities during the learning process so that the class looked lively and the tasks given could be completed well, and (2) the learning outcomes of class VI students of SDN 2 Singgahan, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency in participating in descriptive writing learning with the explicit instruction model.
