Abstract

Raden Roro Intan. 2025. Improving Language and Socio-Emotional Skills Using Picture Media and Open-Ended Questions in Fairy Tale Learning for Grade 2 Students of SD Negeri 2 Drenges, Kertosono District, Academic Year 2025–2026. Thesis. Madiun: Magister Study Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S., M.Pd., (II) Dr. Kodrat Eko Putro Setiawan, M.Pd. Keywords: Picture Media, Open-Ended Questions, Language Skills, Socio-Emotional. This study aims to improve the language and socio-emotional skills of 2nd-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Drenges through the use of picture media and open-ended questions in fairy tale learning. This research employs a qualitative method with a classroom action research design. The subjects of the study were 18 second-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Drenges. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that the use of picture media and open-ended questions can enhance students' language and socio-emotional skills. Students became more active and engaged in the learning process, demonstrated a better understanding of fairy tales, and were able to express their opinions and ideas more clearly and effectively. This study recommends the use of picture media and open-ended questions as an effective learning strategy to improve students' language and socio-emotional skills.
