Abstract
Suyono. 2025. The Implementation of Project Based Learning Model Using Picture Media to Improve Narrative Text Writing Skills Of The 5th Grade Students Of Sd Negeri 5 Kebonagung, Sawahan District, Nganjuk Regency. Theses. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program, Universitas PGRI Madiun, Advisor I. Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd; (II) ) Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Project Based Learning, Picture Media, Narrative Writing Skills This study aims to: (1) describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by picture media in improving the narrative writing skills of the fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 5 Kebonagung; and (2) describe the improvement in students’ narrative writing skills after the implementation of the picture-based PjBL model. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were six fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 5 Kebonagung. Data were collected through observations of teacher and student activities, assessments of narrative text writing skills, and documentation of students’ project results. The scoring instrument covered content relevance, narrative structure, language use, creativity, and neatness. Data analysis consisted of qualitative analysis of the learning process and quantitative analysis of students’ writing achievements. The results show that the implementation of the picture-based PjBL model improved students’ motivation, participation, and creativity in writing narrative texts. In Cycle I, several students still struggled with developing ideas and structuring the plot. However, after improvements in Cycle II through more intensive guidance, the use of more contextual picture media, and collaborative group work, students demonstrated significant improvement. The average writing score increased from “fair” in the pre-cycle to “good” in Cycle I, and further increased to “very good” in Cycle II. Project Based Learning model supported by picture media is effective in improving the narrative text writing skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 5 Kebonagung. This model provides meaningful learning experiences through engaging and challenging project-based activities.
