Abstract
Tunjung Prasetyo. 2025. Improving Skimming Ability Thought Direct Reading Activity (DRA) Strategy in Grade IV Students of SD Negeri 4 Klodan, Nganjuk Regency. Thesis. Madiun: Magister Study Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate Program, Universitas PGRI Madiun, Advisor Prof. Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd., Co Advisor Dr. Muh. Waskito Ardhi, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords : Direct Reading Activity Strategy (DRA), Skimming. Reading is an activity that is done by someone to get message or information that is conveyed by the writer through media in the form of meaning words and language which is written. Every student must have reading skill to get message from the text, gain knowledge about something, and enlarge insight. Based on the observation result at SD Negeri 4 Klodan Nganjuk Regency especially the fourth grade students, there is found problem in the Indonesian learning that is the lack of syudents skill to comprehend a text. It happens because strategy which is used by the teacher is inappropriate with the learning material. The implementation of the learning strategy which is inappropriate causes the learning process become not optimal, it is because this strategy spends longer time while the students learning result in comprehending a text is low. The proof is from 40 students in the fourth grade, there are 12 students (60%) fail to reach KKM that is 70. In relation with the problem, the researcher does a research by implementing DRA strategy to improve skimming ability. By DRA strategy, students have the clear purpose in reading by relating knowledges that students have to improve their comprehension. The objectives of this research are to describe the implementation of DRA strategy, the learning result, the obstacles which appear in skimming and the way to solve them. This research is conducted using action research (PTK), that is done in two cycles. Every cycle consist of four steps. Data collection techniques that are used are observation, test, and field note. The data that has collected is analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The result of this research indicates that the implementation of DRA strategy can improve the students learning result with average score that is obtained at first cycle is 55%, at second cycle is 90%. Beside that, the result of this research shows that there is an improvement of teachers activities with the average at first cycle is 75,93 and at second cycle is 94,44. In conclusion, DRA strategy can be implemented to improve students comprehension of reading material through skimming activity.
