Abstract

Measuring wastewater flow is one of the important aspects in the operation of the Paiton Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Units 1&2 to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and maintain operational efficiency. In the existing system, a turbine model flowmeter is used to measure the wastewater flow rate. However, the limitations in accuracy and the potential for mechanical damage lead to a decrease in measurement performance. Therefore, this research focuses on converting the flow measurement system by replacing the turbine flowmeter with an ultrasonic flowmeter to improve the reliability and accuracy of the measurements. Ultrasonic flowmeters offer advantages such as being non-contact, having a faster response, and requiring minimal maintenance because they have no moving parts. The methods used in this study include a comparative study between the two types of flowmeters based on performance accuracy, stability, and maintenance, as well as an analysis of wastewater flow data before and after implementation. The replacement results show a significant improvement in measurement reliability and ease of real-time monitoring, while also reducing the risk of downtime due to equipment failure.
