Abstract

Financial Distress is a condition in which a company experiences financial difficulties and could lead to bankruptcy. The subjects of this study were Rural Credit Banks in the Madiun Residency. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Non-Performing Loans, Return on Assets, and Operating Expenses on Operating Income towards Financial Distress. The secondary data source used in this study was the company's financial statements. The population in this study was Rural Credit Banks in the Madiun Residency registered with the OJK for the 2020-2024 period, Purposive sampling was used, with a sample size of 22 companies. This study employed a quantitative approach using SPSS 25 software. The results show that non-performing loans has a positive and significant effect towards financial distress, while return on assets had a negative and significant effect towards financial distress. Operating expenses and operating income had a positive and significant effect towards financial distress. Non-performing loans, return on assets, and operating expenses and operating income simultaneously affected financial distress.
