Abstract

Sofitri Titis Mardiana Sari, 2025. Implementation of Story-Based Learning Method on Reading Skills of Grade 3 Students of Kalimalang Elementary School, Sukorejo District, Ponorogo Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. Graduate School of PGRI Madiun University (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S, M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, SS, M.Pd. This study aims to describe the implementation of story-based learning methods and their impact on the reading skills of third-grade students at SDN Kalimalang, Sukorejo Subdistrict, Ponorogo Regency. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving 13 students and one classroom teacher as research subjects. The findings show that the story-based learning method was implemented through three main stages: reading picture stories, shared reading and discussion, and independent reading followed by comprehension tasks. This method effectively improved students’ understanding of the story content, ability to identify characters and settings, summarize moral messages, and read expressively. In addition, students demonstrated increased interest in reading and active participation in literacy activities. Despite variations in students' reading abilities, the teacher successfully addressed the challenges through visual aids, group discussions, and individualized guidance. Story-based learning proved to be an effective strategy for enhancing reading literacy and provided an enjoyable and meaningful learning experience for elementary students. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi metode pembelajaran berbasis cerita serta dampaknya terhadap keterampilan membaca siswa kelas III SDN Kalimalang; Kecamatan Sukorejo; Kabupaten Ponorogo. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif jenis studi kasus; dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 13 siswa dan satu guru kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi metode pembelajaran berbasis cerita dilakukan melalui tiga tahapan utama; yaitu membaca cerita bergambar; membaca bersama dan berdiskusi; serta membaca mandiri disertai tugas pemahaman. Metode ini terbukti mampu meningkatkan pemahaman isi cerita; kemampuan menyebutkan tokoh dan latar; menyimpulkan pesan moral; dan membaca dengan ekspresi yang tepat. Selain itu, siswa menunjukkan peningkatan minat membaca dan keterlibatan aktif dalam kegiatan literasi. Meskipun terdapat variasi kemampuan membaca di antara siswa; guru mampu mengatasi hambatan tersebut dengan pendekatan visual; diskusi kelompok; dan bimbingan individual. Pembelajaran berbasis cerita terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi membaca dan memberikan pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan dan bermakna bagi siswa.
