Abstract
This study aims to describe and explain the application of tiered reading books with guided reading strategies in Grade III students of SD Negeri I Kaponan Mlarak Ponorogo, and describe and explain the results of learning to read and write in Grade III students of SD Negeri I Kaponan Mlarak. The method in this study is a descriptive method that is a method that collects data, investigate and process the data with a qualitative approach. This type of research is Classroom Action Research, which means action research (research with action) conducted in the classroom. This study uses the spiral method of Kemmis and Taggart developed by Stephen Kemmis and Robbin Mc Taggart. Data collection techniques, including observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies. Indicators of success in improving student learning outcomes in this study seen from 75% of students completed KKM (KKM value 75). The results obtained from the three posttest showed that 90% of students passed the KKM at the end of Cycle 3 for reading lessons. There are 87% of students who pass KKM at the end of Cycle 3 for writing lessons. The average value of student performance at the end of Cycle 3 Increased, which was only 62 for reading lessons, increasing to 77.4. At the writing lesson, which was 62 increases to 76 at the end of Cycle 3. The results of observations of student visits in each cycle with indicators of the success of this study is that there are 75% of students who visit the library. In Cycle 1, there were 3.2% (1) of students who visited the library. In Cycle 2, there were 35.5% (11) students who visited the library with a value > 75. While in Cycle 3 there are 90% or 28 students who visit the library with a value of > 75. The literacy movement shows an increase, from the success indicator of literacy activities is > 75. The progress of the development of literacy activities seen in Cycle 1 there are 6.5% (2) of students who conduct literacy activities at school. Then, in Cycle 2, it increased to 54.8% (17) of students who carried out literacy activities with values > 75. In Cycle 3, there were 93.6% or 29 students who carried out literacy activities with values > 75.
