Abstract

This research aims to describe the implementation of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model in teaching reading comprehension, to identify the challenges faced by the teacher, and to explain the efforts made to overcome those challenges in Grade V of SD Negeri 1 Tanjungsari, Jenangan Sub-district, Ponorogo Regency. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were the Grade V teacher, Laili Nurfaidah, S.Pd.SD, and 15 students. The results showed that the Jigsaw model was implemented through structured stages, including planning, expert group discussions, home group presentations, and both process- and product-based evaluations. This model effectively enhanced students' engagement and reading comprehension, as each student was responsible for mastering and teaching a specific part of the text to their peers. However, several challenges were encountered during the implementation, such as time constraints, varied reading abilities among students, and low self-confidence. The teacher addressed these challenges through heterogeneous grouping, motivational support, the use of visual aids, and time adjustments. Overall, the Jigsaw model proved to be effective in improving reading comprehension skills and in fostering an active, collaborative, and student-centered learning environment.
