Abstract

This study aims to analyze reading difficulties and learning solutions in fourth grade students of SDN 01 Wungu, Wungu District, Madiun Regency. This study was motivated by the fact that most fourth grade students still experience various obstacles in reading, both in terms of reading fluency, pronunciation errors, and difficulty understanding the contents of the reading. The main objective of this study is to identify the types of reading difficulties experienced by students and to apply appropriate learning solutions to overcome these problems. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were 19 fourth grade students of SDN 01 Wungu. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, reading tests, and documentation. Data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study showed that students' reading difficulties consisted of incorrect pronunciation, difficulty distinguishing certain letters such as b/d and p/q, low reading speed and fluency, and weak understanding of the contents of the reading. Causal factors include lack of phonetic practice, minimal home environmental support, and potential learning disorders such as mild dyslexia. Effective learning solutions include the use of phonics methods, cooperative learning, multisensory approaches, and guided reading strategies. The implementation of these strategies has been proven to improve students' reading skills gradually and significantly.
