History Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Khoirul Huda, M.Pd., (II) Anjar Mukti Wibowo, S.Sn., S.Pd., M.Pd. Education in Indonesia plays a vital role in shaping quality human resources, especially in the era of globalization. History education has an important role; however, it is often considered boring due to the methods commonly used, such as lectures and memorization. To overcome this, the role-playing method can be a solution. This method encourages students to be more active and engaged, enabling them to better understand the material in an enjoyable way. At SMK Negeri 1 Slahung Ponorogo, many students feel less interested in history learning that relies only on lectures. Therefore, the application of the role-playing method is expected to increase students’ interest and understanding of history and national identity. This research belongs to qualitative research with a case study approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation study. Data analysis techniques used Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research findings show that the implementation of the role-playing method in history learning at SMK Negeri 1 Slahung Ponorogo begins with selecting historical topics based on the teaching module, assigning students to play historical figures, encouraging improvisation according to roles, and conducting teacher-led discussions and reflections to measure students’ understanding of historical material. The obstacles faced by history teachers in implementing role-playing in grade X history learning include limited teaching aids, time constraints, lack of teacher skills in managing activities and scenarios, low student participation, and the fact that not all historical materials are suitable for the role-playing method.
