Abstract

ABSTRACT Aulia Noor Lutfia Salsabila. 2025. The Implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Method in Speaking Skills of Seventh Grade B Students at SMP Progresif Al Mardliyyah, Madiun City. Undergraduate Thesis. Study Program of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisors: (I) Dr. Agung Nasrulloh Saputro, S.Pd., M.Pd. (II) Asri Musandi Waraulia, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to reveal how the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method is implemented in teaching speaking skills to seventh grade B students at SMP Progresif Al Mardliyyah, Madiun City, and to analyze its impact on the development of students’ speaking abilities. The PBL method was chosen because it is believed to encourage active learning and critical thinking through problem-solving processes related to real-life situations. This research employed a qualitative approach with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and speaking skill tests. The results show that the implementation of PBL significantly improved students’ speaking skills in terms of fluency, confidence, and the ability to express opinions logically. In addition, students demonstrated increased activeness and learning interest during the learning process. Therefore, the PBL method has been proven effective for teaching speaking skills at the junior high school level. Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, speaking skills
