Abstract
Body odor is a common problem caused by the activity of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in sweat, which converts odorless compounds into odorous compounds. Butterfly pea flowers contain compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins that have the potential to act as antibacterials. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical characteristics and antibacterial activity of roll-on deodorant preparations containing butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The research method used was a quantitative laboratory experimental method, extract preparation using the remaceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. The preparations were evaluated including physical characteristics tests (pH, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity), organoleptic tests, antibacterial activity tests against Staphylococcus aureus using the disc diffusion method by comparing them to negative controls (DMSO 10%) and positive controls (marketed products). The results showed that all formulas met the physical and organoleptic characteristics requirements. Antibacterial tests showed that the roll-on deodorant preparation containing Clitoria ternatea flower extract could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with the highest inhibition zone of 19.89 mm. The conclusion of this study is that the roll-on deodorant preparation formulation 3 containing Clitoria ternatea flower extract with a concentration of 15% is the best preparation in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Keywords: Butterfly pea flower, Roll-on deodorant, Staphylococcus aureus, Antibacterial.
