Abstract

Butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea) contains active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and anthocyanins which act as natural antioxidants. This study aimed to formulate a gel-based facial scrub using butterfly pea extract and to evaluate its physical properties. The extract was obtained by remaceration method using 96% ethanol. Four formulas were prepared: F0 (without extract) and F1–F3 containing 5%, 10%, and 15% extract concentrations, respectively. Evaluations included organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. The results showed that all formulas had different organoleptic characteristics depending on extract concentration; the pH values were within the acceptable skin range (4.5–6.5); the formulations were homogeneous; viscosity was stable; spreadability ranged from 5–7 cm; and adhesion increased with higher extract concentrations. The results showed that all formulations met the required physical evaluation parameters. Therefore, all formulations can be stated as optimum formulas.
