Abstract

Mevi Rachelia, 2025. Perception and Participation of the Younger Generation in the Preservation of Candi Pari in Porong District, Sidoarjo Regency. Thesis. History Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisors: (I) Prof. Dr. Drs. Muhammad Hanif, M.M., M.Pd., (II) Dr. Drs. Soebijantoro, M.M., M.Pd. The lack of perception and participation among the younger generation in the preservation of Candi Pari in Porong District, Sidoarjo Regency, is concerning, especially since this temple is an important historical heritage that needs to be preserved. The current younger generation tends to be more interested in gadgets rather than learning about culture and history, which poses a threat to the sustainability of Candi Pari's preservation. This study aims to describe the perceptions and participation of the youth in Candi Pari village regarding the preservation of Candi Pari as a historical and cultural site. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Primary data sources were obtained through interviews with village officials, the caretaker of Candi Pari, and the youth of Candi Pari village. Secondary data sources included scientific articles, books, and local archives. Data collection techniques involved structured interviews, passive participation observation, and documentation. Data validity was tested using source triangulation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the perceptions of the younger generation towards Candi Pari vary. Some youth have a positive perception, viewing Candi Pari as a symbol of identity and pride for the village, and actively introducing it to tourists. However, others have a limited understanding of the historical and cultural value of Candi Pari, considering it less relevant to modern life, which leads to low awareness and interest in preservation efforts. Youth participation is evident in activities such as being tour guides and engaging in village cultural events; however, consistency remains a challenge due to factors such as mood, modern hobbies, and school or work commitments. Collaboration between the village government and the youth is crucial to ensure the sustainability of Candi Pari's preservation. Keywords: Perception, Participation, Preservation, Candi Pari
