Abstract
Early marriage is defined as marriage that takes place before the age of 19, at which point an individual's mental and emotional readiness is not yet fully developed. This study aims to explore the psychological experiences of subjects involved in early marriage in Sidomulyo Village, Ngadirojo District, through a qualitative approach using phenomenological methods. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and participatory observation of three subjects who married early, as well as interviews with community leaders to understand the socio-cultural context. This study examines the psychological dynamics, social pressures, and cultural factors underlying the phenomenon of early marriage in the area. The findings indicate that early marriage in Sidomulyo Village is influenced by multidimensional factors, including low educational levels, cultural norms that view early marriage as acceptable, economic pressures, and a lack of understanding about reproductive health. The psychological impacts on the subjects include unpreparedness to face the responsibilities of marriage, role conflicts as spouses and parents, and limitations in making life decisions. In addition, early marriage also limits the subjects' access to educational opportunities and self-development. This study has important implications for the need for multidisciplinary interventions, including public awareness programs, improved access to education, and psychosocial support for adolescents and families in rural areas. The study also recommends strengthening local policies to prevent early marriage with an approach that is culturally sensitive but oriented toward the well-being of adolescents.
