Abstract

Indonesia is a country with abundant biological wealth, including medicinal plants that have been used for generations by communities in traditional medicine, one of which is the Tengger Tribe in Ngadas Village, Poncokusumo District. This study aims to identify plant species, plant families, parts used, application methods, preparation methods, and analyze the effectiveness and content of active compounds through literature studies. The method used is descriptive ethnography with qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 63 informants using the snowball sampling technique. Data analysis used quantitative ethnobotanical indices such as Species Use Value (SUV), Family Use Value (FUV), Fidelity Level (FL), and Informant Consensus Factor (ICF). The results show that there are 59 species from 29 families used for anti-inflammatory and analgesic treatments. The most commonly used plant part is the leaf (45%), with boiling preparation (73%), and oral application (84%). The species with the highest SUV were Foeniculum vulgare (0.82), Borreria leavis (0.74), and Acorus calamus (0.73). The highest FUV was in the Acoraceae family (0.73). The highest FL (100%) values were found in Acorus calamus and Datura metel, while the highest ICF was obtained from the categories of eye pain (1), sprains (0.97), and back pain (0.89). Literature studies show that plants containing compounds such as kaempferol, apigenin, estragole, and β-caryophyllene have anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities.
