Keywords: learning, thematic, critical thinking, and HOTS This research aims to describe (1) the application of thematic learning to develop critical thinking for Class V students at SDN 2 Wagirkidul Sub-district, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency and (2) the application of HOTS-based learning for the development of critical thinking for Class V students at SDN 2 Wagirkidul District, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency. The research approach used in this research is qualitative research. This type of research uses field research. The results of this research are (1) the development of critical thinking of fifth grade students at SDN 2 Wagirkidul District, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency, carried out through the planning, implementation and evaluation stages. Student learning outcomes are in accordance with the criteria for success in achieving the learning objectives to be achieved, and (2) The application of HOTS-based learning for the development of critical thinking for fifth grade students at SDN 2 Wagirkidul District, Pulung Subdistrict, Ponorogo Regency includes assessments carried out on students' thinking abilities that are not just about memorizing. , remembering and restating the knowledge they have but also interpreting, solving problems, analyzing, giving arguments or opinions and making th right decisions.
