Abstract
The Chinese Captain's House Cultural Heritage Site, located near Madiun City Square, is now being used as a café called Kopi Kakak. Behind this utilization, the building holds an important historical significance as the residence of a Chinese community leader named Njoo Swie Lian during the colonial period, who was known as the Chinese Captain. The research aims to describe the history, identify forms of participation, and factors influencing the community in the preservation of the Chinese Captain's House as a historical learning resource. The research method used is a qualitative case study approach. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documents. Data validation techniques use triangulation of sources. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis. The research results show that in 2019, the Chinese Captain's House was officially designated as a cultural heritage site and utilized as the Kopi Kakak business premises. In the preservation of the Chinese Captain's House cultural heritage site, active direct participation was demonstrated by the Kopi Kakak management, who utilized the building, as well as participation in terms of ideas, labor, and skills. The surrounding community tends to be passive and indirect, with such conditions influenced by a lack of knowledge and awareness of historical value, economic function, direct benefits, personal motivation, aesthetic value, and information availability. The potential of the Chinese Captain's House as a source of historical learning can be utilized in the implementation of the independent curriculum in the F phase of grades XI and XII at the high school level. The Chinese Captain's House building holds historical, social, and cultural values relevant to learning outcomes.
